How We Review AI Finance Tools

Every tool review evaluates the same five dimensions: accuracy (do outputs match independently verifiable ground truth?), transparency (are assumptions and methodology disclosed?), cost (fully loaded: subscription, data sharing, and exit cost), usability (time from signup to genuine value), and integration (does it connect to real accounts or rely on manual entry?).

Where a tool performs calculations, we test it against known answers (standard financial formulas, canonical amortization tables, and hand-verified compounding scenarios), using identical inputs across competing tools. We run repeated trials to check consistency: a calculator that returns different answers for the same inputs is flagged, whatever its marketing says.

Where a tool provides AI-generated explanations or advice, we sample its answers against primary sources (IRS guidance, SEC and CFPB publications, fund prospectuses) and score both correctness and the honesty of its uncertainty. A tool that guesses confidently scores worse than one that flags its limits.

Some failures end a review early: promising guaranteed or predicted investment returns, hiding fees or monetizing user data without clear disclosure, lacking basic account security, or operating without required registrations (SIPC/FDIC coverage where applicable). We'd rather tell you what to avoid than pad a list.

We do not accept payment for reviews, rankings, or scores. If we ever earn an affiliate commission from a linked product, that relationship is disclosed and has no effect on the evaluation; the rubric is the rubric. Tools we praise and tools we criticize are held to identical criteria.

AI products change fast, so reviews have a shelf life. We aim to re-test benchmarked tools periodically and after major product changes, and we date every review so you know exactly when the testing happened.
